Dark Music Days Opens Today

Dark Music Days, an annual festival of contemporary and new music, opens in Harpa Concert Hall, Reykjavík, today. The festival, founded in 1980 by the Icelandic Composers’ Society, presents a cross section of pioneering contemporary music from both sides of the Atlantic Ocean.

It was originally meant to be a platform for Icelandic composers to present their work. There is an emphasis on new Icelandic compositions and performers, in addition to international artists.

According to the festival’s Facebook page, the focus will be on works with mixed techniques, exploring the boundaries of contemporary music performance. In addition to concerts, there will be a sound art exhibition in open spaces at Harpa.

The festival concludes on Saturday.
