The Danish design store, Stof & Stil has been accused of stealing the Notknot pillow design by Icelandic designer Ragnheiður Ösp Sigurðardóttir.
She showed Notknot first at DesignMarch in Reykjavík in 2011, and was awarded Best Product Line in The Grapevine’s second annual Product Awards, Vísir.is reports.
Ragnheiður Ösp contacted the Copenhagen store after being asked if she was working with them. They told her that their designers had come up with the same idea, at the same time, as her.
The next step, Ragnheiður Ösp says, is to contact her lawyer, “I don’t believe it is as the store says,” she adds.
The inspiration for Notknot originally came from Scouting knots. “I’ve been fascinated by knots, the process of knotting and their purpose for some time now,” Ragnheiður says. “After looking through Scouts’, nautical and decorative knots I really wanted to play with their sizes and see the outcome of changing their textures and purpose.”
“The hard and tightly-bound knot becomes soft and cozy. Its purpose, which is being strong and secure, changes to being comforting and warm – but at the same time it holds its decorative value.”
