Danish military offers weapons to Icelandic Coast Guard

The Danish military has offered to give the Icelandic Coast Guard a considerable amount of rifles and machine guns, which the Danish military is replacing with new and better weapons.

According to Morgunbladid, the Icelandic Ministry of Justice has decided to accept the offer, but several formalities need to be taken care of before the weapons can be transported to the country. Georg Lárusson, director of the Icelandic Coast Guard, did not confirm the story.

The Icelandic Coast Guard has received weapons from the Danish military before, in addition to bomb demolition vehicles equipped with robots.

New laws regarding the function of the Icelandic Coast Guard, which took effect on July 1, 2006, state that members of the Coast Guard who have police authority are allowed the use of firearms.
