According to the Bern agreement commission, which has just conducted research by independent scientists on the effect of dams on bird life, no bird species will be noticably influenced by the Kárahnjúkar dam.
This research was conducted because of charges brought against the Icelandic state by Icelandic and international bird protection societies. The Bern Agreement Commission held their annual meeting in Strasburg recently.
