The Dalvík skiing area in northeast Iceland opened yesterday. For the past few weeks fake snow has been produced whenever the weather was fortunate and now the slopes have enough snow for skiing.
Skiing in Dalvík will be free until Sunday, when the sale of skiing passes begins. The upper lift in the skiing area is currently being prepared so that it can also be opened on Saturday, ruv.is reports.
Locally-based seafood company Samherji is sponsoring the fake snow production and the first days of free skiing.
