Hot water will be channeled into the new distribution system of the Dalvík Heating Facility in Svarfadadalur valley, northeast Iceland, for the first time today when the system will be launched formally at a special ceremony.
Earlier this year, two nearby areas from where geothermal heat is harnessed, at Brimnesborgir and Hamar, were connected and the distribution system of the Dalvík heating facility was enlarged with a hot water pipe in Svarfadadalur, ruv.is reports.
The distribution system will provide both houses and summer cottages in the valley with heating.
A fiber optic cable was also installed to provide residents in the region with a high-speed internet connection.
