Czech Runner Completes Solo Run around Iceland

Czech runner René Kujan became the first person to complete a solo circumnavigation of Iceland, approximately 1,300 kilometers, in 30 days, when he arrived in Elliðaárdalur valley in Reykjavík on Monday. In order to meet his goal, he ran one marathon per day during the month-long journey.

After surviving a severe car accident, Kujan was told that he would never walk again. He recovered and took up running to raise money for the Wheelchair Sports Club in Prague.

Kujan has visited Iceland five times and says he enjoys running in the cold. He said he was surprised with how well the run went but that he did have some bad weather along the way.

Despite the long journey, he told visir.is that he would still wake up on Tuesday for his morning run. “I think I will still go out and run tomorrow morning, maybe just six or seven kilometers.”
