Czech Couple Stuck in Car for Five Days

By Iceland Review

A Czech couple who were traveling in east and central Iceland and had been missing for five days, were found yesterday after spending five days in their jeep near the volcano Askja in the central highlands. They were hungry and tired but unharmed.

The couple was last spotted in Fellabaer, a part of Egilsstadir in east Iceland, on Friday where they were buying fuel. Apparently, they did not tell anyone where they were going, reports.

The man works in Ólafsfjördur, northeast Iceland, and when he didn’t show up for work on Monday, he and his wife were reported missing.

Thorvaldur Vídir Thórsson, a mountaineer who plans to climb Iceland’s 100 highest peaks in one year, and a group of climbers found the couple and called for help via satellite phone.

The climbers gave the Czech couple food while they waited for the emergency services. The area is difficult to cross and therefore it took some time before help arrived.
