After three sold-out concerts and a successful first season of their TV show, the boy band Ice Guys is planning a brief hiatus in early 2024 to focus on solo projects before releasing additional material. Sjónvarp Símans has confirmed that a second season of the TV show is in the works.

“Everything has happened so quickly”

Following three sold-out concerts in Kaplakriki on December 16, the Ice Guys are gearing up for another eventful year.

Prior to this year’s annual comedy revue (i.e. Áramótaskaupið), broadcast annually by RÚV on December 31, Sjónvarp Símans ran a commercial announcing that the TV show Ice Guys (centred around the eponymous band) had been confirmed for a second season.

Musician Jón Jónsson had the idea for Ice Guys in early 2023 and subsequently recruited four other members: his brother Frikki Dór, Herra Hnetusmjör, Aron Can, and Rúrik Gíslason. The Ice Guys released their first single Rúletta in June of last year and followed up with the single Krumla, which was accompanied by a music video. The band’s Christmas EP also enjoyed widespread airplay.

Iceland Review caught up with Jón Jónsson during rehearsals in the Salurinn concert hall in Kópavogur in December. Not wanting to give too much away, Jón observed that the band would likely be taking a bit of a breather in early 2024:

“We are still drawing up plans for the new year because all of this has happened quite quickly and serendipitously. We want to allow the concept to breathe, and maybe afford the members of the group the opportunity to focus on their solo careers. But we have lots of material that is in the works, and that we have been saving, which will make for a good time when we reunite. We may release a single for the summer. We want to ensure that everyone is hungry and properly geared up.”
