CT Scanner out of Order Once Again

More than half of the 20 ambulance calls made last night were because of a broken CT scanner at Landspítali National University Hospital in Fossvogur, according to mbl.is. This is the third time this year that the CT scanner breaks down.

Patients admitted to the emergency room needing a CT scan are now transported to Landspítali on Hringbraut. That puts strain on ambulance service, which is handled by the Greater Reykjavík Area Fire Station, and increases waiting time for emergency room patients.

A spare part for the scanner in Fossvogur should arrive today, according to Jón Baldvin Halldórsson, public relations person at Landspítali. The scanner should be fixed by 2 pm. “Experience has shown that this won’t be a permanent solution for this equipment. There is no doubt about that,” Jón Baldvin stated. A permanent solution would be a new scanner, he said.
