Cruise Ships Arrive in North Iceland Town

The cruise ships MSC Magnifica and Adventure of the Seas docked in the North Iceland town of Akureyri (pop. 18,000) this morning carrying a total of 5,500 tourists, plus staff.

Böðvar Eggertsson, staff member at the Akureyri harbor, told ruv.is that the passengers had been lucky, arriving with forecasts of up to 18ºC (64.4ºF).

MSC Magnifica weighs 92,000 tons and Adventure of the Seas 137,000. Photos of the ships docked in Akureyri can be viewed here.

Adventure of the Seas is the largest cruise ship to dock in Iceland and to enter Icelandic waters. The ship arrived in Reykjavík on Monday.

The ship is roughly 137,000 tons with capacity for 4,300 people including 3,114 passengers.
