The third Kedjuverkun – Critical Mass bicycle ride was held in Reykjavík yesterday, a monthly event taking place the last Friday of every month in cities and towns around the world and aimed at promoting cycling as a good way to commute.
Participants gathered at the parking lot outside the National Hospital Building Borgarspítalinn in Fossvogur and began cycling at 5 pm. The route varies each time and is not revealed until the beginning of the ride.
After the ride participants were offered food and drink by the Public Health Institute of Iceland, which organizes the monthly event.
According to Icelandic traffic laws, bicycles should be ridden on the streets alongside cars, but it is also permitted to ride bicycles on sidewalks and footpaths, so both fast and slow bikers can join the ride.
