Crisis Counseling Offered to Witnesses of Jökulsárlón Accident

Witnesses of the fatal accident at Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon in which a female tourist of foreign origin was hit by a boat on wheels at the parking lot have been offered crisis counseling, according to Sveinn Kristján Rúnarsson, South Iceland chief of police.

The woman died instantly after being hit by the boat, which weighs three tons, Vísir reports. Many people were at the lagoon when the accident occurred between the lagoon and the cafe around 5 pm yesterday evening.

The incident is under investigation.

The woman’s name and nationality has not yet been released. She was traveling with family but efforts are being made to contact her friends and family members abroad.
