The Reykjavík Metropolitan Police are investigating a wave of complaints about clowns in the Grafarvogur neighborhood in Reykjavík, Vísir reports. People dressed as clowns have been knocking on neighborhood windows at night, scaring residents. When unsuspicious family members look toward the window, a clown’s face stares them in the face. Besides, clown-dressed individuals are said to have followed children in the area. Those suspected by police are teenagers.
Nanna Dröfn Harðardóttir, a mother in Grafarvogur, heard a knock on her window one night and saw a clown appear outside, who stared into the house for a long time. “I just froze. I just hope he won’t come back. I have younger children, and they would have died of fear. But, luckily, they didn’t witness this; they would have died of fear.”
Nanna reported a clown bothered others on her street and children in the neighborhood.
Chief Inspector Valgarður Valgarðsson stated that police suspect these to be teenage boys, still in grade school.
The clown epidemic has international roots. A wave of creepy clowns has affected numerous countries since August, when a boy in South Carolina, the US, told his mother that two men, dressed as clowns, tried to lure him into the woods. In October, similar complaints had been received from most US states and from a number of other countries worldwide.
In previous years, there have been examples of scary clowns as well, both in the UK and in Italy, who have terrified neighborhoods with their presence.
