The Supreme Court of Iceland has affirmed the acquittal of five young men, accused of gang-raping a 16-year-old girl in Reykjavík in May of 2014, Vísir reports. The Supreme Court invalidated the acquittal of one of the men for showing a video recording of the act. That part of the case will be sent back to the district court.
The men, ages 18-21, were acquitted in the Reykjavík District Court in November of last year, except for the one who videotaped the act, who received a 30-day sentence and two years on probation. He was also sentenced to pay the girl ISK 500,000 (USD 4,400, EUR 3,900) in damages.
The state prosecutor had demanded that testimonies be repeated before the Supreme Court. That demand was denied by the court. The case has been in the court system for two and a half years.
