Couple with Three Children Wins the Lottery

A couple with three children from the Reykjavík suburb of Breidholt hit the jackpot when they won ISK 65 million (USD 792,000, EUR 538,000) in National Lottery on Saturday, one of the highest winnings in the history of Icelandic lottery.

Managing director of Íslensk getspá, the National Lottery, Stefán Smári Konrádsson told 24 Stundir that the winning will come in handy for the couple. “They have both had two jobs to make ends meet.”

The family is of Thai origin. “The woman is an Icelandic citizen and has lived here for ten years and her husband for five,” Konrádsson said.

According to Konrádsson, the couple plays the lottery regularly and they bought the winning ticket on August 12. “They bought the ticket that day because it is Mother’s Day in Thailand and the birthday of the queen.”
