Couple from Iceland arrested with drugs in Denmark

Two Icelanders, a 36-year-old male and a 20-year-old female, were arrested in Copenhagen August 11 carrying 1.9 kilos of a substance believed to be cocaine and are still in custody, as revealed today.

The man in question is well-known by the Icelandic police for similar violations, Fréttabladid reports.

This is the second time this year that Icelanders are arrested abroad carrying extensive amounts of cocaine. On June 6, a 28-year-old Icelander was arrested at the Guarulhos airport in Sao Paulo in Brazil and is awaiting sentencing.

Hlynur Smári Sigurdsson, 25, is currently on probation doing community service in Brazil for attempted cocaine smuggling, and another Icelander who was caught with 12 kilos of hash in Brazil last summer is serving time in prison.

An Icelandic citizen was given a two-year suspended sentence in July after being arrested last January in Bremen, Germany, for attempting to smuggle 700 grams of illegal substances.
