The pair was questioned yesterday, following the questioning of the alleged buyers that has taken place in the past days, Morgunblaðið reports.

The case’s investigation began two months ago at Keflavík International Airport when the woman arrived to the country. The police suspected that she might be a victim of human trafficking but that suspicion has yet to be confirmed.

The woman stayed in the capital region, where the alleged prostitution is believed to have taken place, advertising her services as massage. The police are also investigating whether the woman may have connection with other foreign prostitutes in Iceland.

A group dealing with organized crime within the Suðurnes police department is responsible for the case’s investigation, which is carried out in collaboration with the Reykjavík Metropolitan Police and Keflavík customs officers.

Prostitution is not illegal in Iceland. However, soliciting sex is illegal as well as organizing and profiting from prostitution as a third party.

The Reykjavík Metropolitan Police recently filed around 70 cases of prostitution to the State Prosecutor.
