Council of Europe Ministerial Conference Held in Iceland

The conference “A New Notion of Media” between all 47 ministers of the Council of Europe who are responsible for media and communication, or their representatives, and international interest organizations will take place in Reykjavík today and tomorrow.

Additionally, a special conference on anti-terrorist legislation and its abuse in relation to the ministerial conference was held yesterday, as well as a European Youth Forum symposium on the matters of young people in relation to the media.

During the ministerial conference, decisions will be made on the Council of Europe’s policy on media-related issues for the next five years.

Participants include one of the two managing directors of the Council of Europe, Maud de Boer-Buquincchio, Iceland’s Minister of Education Katrín Jakobsdóttir, Dr. Karol Jakubowicz, a specialist in communication and new media, and Davíd Thór Björgvinsson, a judge at the European Court of Human Rights.

The conference is organized by Iceland’s Ministry of Education in cooperation with the Council of Europe.
