Greece-born director and “master of political thrillers” Constantin Costa-Gavras will be the honorary guest of this year’s Reykjavík International Film Festival (RIFF), held September 25 to October 5. Costa-Gavras has never visited Iceland before.

RIFF organizers are very pleased to be able to welcome Costa-Gavras to this year’s festival. The director will participate in some events organized in relation the festival and some of his best-known films will be screened during his stay.
Costa-Gavras was born in Greece in 1933 but his lived in France most of his life. He directed his first film in 1965 but is mostly famous for political thrillers. In 1969 Costa-Gavras received the Oscar for his thriller Z.
Other famous films by Costa-Gavras include State of Siege, where French actors Yves Montand and Renato Salvatori play the main roles, Missing, starring Jack Lemon and Sissy Spacek, and Mad City with John Travolta and Dustin Hoffman.
