Iceland’s most famous burger bar has opened a branch in Copenhagen.
“It’s unbelievable that people would wait so long. It’s a real honor,” says Iceland’s ‘Mr. Burgers’, Tómas Andrés Tómasson, better-known as Tommi at Búllan. His Búllan burger joints are famous across Iceland, and he even has branches in London and Berlin. As of this week, he also has a branch in the Danish capital, Copenhagen.
People were queuing up in two-hour long lines on Tuesday to try the burgers. “Today, our first day, we’re giving the burgers away. We have given a thousand so far and are going to go up to 1200,” Tommi said at the time. Vísir.is reported that Tommi was on-site on opening day, but was more there for show than to be useful, by his own admission. “I’m trying to be here on the side and putting my blessing on it all. I haven’t been directly involved in the flipping.”
The Danish Búllan is staffed by Icelanders – most of whom are fluent in Danish.
While the Danes were certainly enthusiastic about Tommi’s Burger Joint on day one, Tommi says that was to be expected, as the burgers were free – adding, however, that people seem to have been very satisfied with the fare.
The Joint is located in Kødbyen, a trendy neighborhood of the Danish capital, especially popular with young people.
