Warm spring weather across Iceland is expected to taper off by next weekend, according to recent forecasts.
From the Icelandic Meteorological Office, Einar Sveinbjörnsson told mbl.is that Friday will likely mark the final warm day before a gradual cooldown begins.
“This has been a two-to-three week warm spell, but there will be a transition this weekend. The last warm day will be tomorrow, but then it will slowly subside,” he told the news agency.
The meteorologist made a point of highlighting the recent good weather, citing that temperatures in the northeast recently peaked near 18°C.
Bringing with it mild air, the high-pressure system over the southeast is now shifting eastward. Einar explained that the upcoming change won’t feel sudden or severe, but more gradual. “This isn’t like sometimes in the spring, where the weather changes at the drop of a hat. This will happen in a few days.”
Cooler air from the west and southwest is forecast throughout the week, bringing average or slightly below-average temperatures across Iceland. Southern regions may see sunshine by day and frost at night, and sleet or snowfall will remain possible later in the week.
