Conference and Exhibition on Food in Reykjavík

By Iceland Review

An exhibition on food and the diet of Reykjavík inhabitants in the 20th century opened yesterday, in Reykjavík’s oldest building on Adalstraeti 10 in the heart of the city, as part of a conference on Icelandic food culture today.

Entitled “The Reykjavík Cuisine – Food and Daily Life for a Hundred Years,” the purpose of the exhibition is to offer Reykjavík residents and other guests the chance to learn about, enjoy and taste the capital’s largely unknown history of food.

The exhibition is organized by the Food-History-Culture Association.

The conference “Of the Buffet of the Century – Phases and Audacity in Icelandic Food Culture” is held in the Idnó building in central Reykjavík between 2 pm and 5 pm today in cooperation with the Icelandic Association of Historians and the Reykjavík Academy.

The conference closes with an old-fashioned celebration dinner.

The exhibition on the Reykjavík cuisine runs through November 23.
