Confederation of Labor Wants New Government

The central committee of the Confederation of Labor (ASÍ) decided yesterday to propose postponement of discussions with the government on reviewing the wage contracts of the labor market until June. By then ASÍ wants a new administration to have taken over.

ASÍ concluded that the new government must have the strength and mandate to participate in trilateral discussions with labor unions on the future development of the Icelandic labor market, Morgunbladid reports.

The ASÍ central committee will submit its proposal at a meeting with the chairmen of all member unions tomorrow and if they approve, ASÍ will discuss the matter with the Confederation of Icelandic Employers (SA).

According to Morgunbladid’s sources, the leadership of ASÍ has lost its patience with the government, whose ministers have not been willing to discuss necessary concerted measures for the labor market.
