More than 500 members of the Commercial Workers Union (VR) met at Grand Hótel in Reykjavík last night to discuss criticism of VR chairman Gunnar Páll Pálsson’s participation in debt write-offs for Kaupthing Bank employees as a board member of Kaupthing.
Pálsson proposed that elections for a new VR board and chairman would be held earlier than planned, as early as January. Meeting attendees agreed to that solution, as reported on VR’s website.
Many attendees spoke during yesterday’s meeting. Some called for the resignation of Pálsson as chairman, while others declared their support for him, challenging him to run for chairman again in the coming elections.
Pálsson told RÚV after the meeting last night that he has not decided whether he will run for VR chairman again.
