Coldest August in Reykjavík in 20 Years

This past August was the coldest in Reykjavík since 1993. The average temperature was just above 10°C (50°F), more than 1.5°C below the average temperature in August of the past ten years, as reported by the Icelandic Met Office.

In East Iceland, however, the average temperature in August was 1.5°C higher than the average temperature of that month from 1961 to 1990, ruv.is reports.

It was also unusually warm in Akureyri in North Iceland this past August with the average temperature being 0.5°C higher than the average in the aforementioned period.

The highest recorded temperature last month was at Þingvellir National Park, 22°C (72°F), while the lowest temperature was on Þverfjall mountain, -3.5°C (26°F).
