Cold Easter Weekend Forecast

By Iceland Review

Roads across Iceland are currently clear, although mountain roads are slightly icy.

There are ice patches and snow on Grindavíkurvegur and Lyngdalsgeiði and the northerly wind is forecast to gain the upper hand as the day progresses; bringing snow and colder temperatures.

Travel conditions are currently quite good, although there are patches of fog across the country, as well as icy patches on Steingrímsfjarðarheiði and between Kirkjubæjarklaustur and Öræfi.

This afternoon, a brisk southwesterly wind of 8-15 meters per second will bring sleet or snow, before dying down significantly and turning to the north. North Iceland can expect a calm but cool afternoon.

Good Friday will bring lower temperatures and windier weather into East Iceland. By the afternoon, the wind will be at 10-18 meters per second, in a north-easterly direction—windiest in the West Fjords.

The colder and less settled weather over the long Easter weekend follows a week of warm and settled weather. Easter is a prominent travel weekend for Icelanders, so many will be keeping a close eye on the road conditions.
