Drastic changes in temperature are being forecast for the coming days. A depression from the west is being carried across the country with cold air coming from the north.

Temperatures are expected to drop today and frost and snowfall is predicted in some places, especially in the north and east, Morgunbladid reports.

“It’s by the book. Here in the north we often get our first shot of winter in early October,” explained Hermann Hólmgeirsson, weather observer at Stadarhóll in Adaldalur in northeast Iceland.

However, by the middle of this week mild weather is forecast for the western part of the country. The weather has in fact been unusually mild in Iceland this autumn.
