Coast Guard Saves Snowbound Men in East Iceland

The crew of the Icelandic Coast Guard’s helicopter rescued men who were trapped in a cabin because of a blizzard by the lake Kollumúlavatn in east Iceland yesterday evening, bringing them to safety in Egilsstaðir.

Due to difficult weather conditions the helicopter couldn’t land by the cabin and so the men had to be hoisted onboard the helicopter, reports.

They left Hornafjörður on Saturday to search for sheep but changed their travel plan because roads were impassable and the weather continued to worsen.

Search and rescue units had earlier found their car at the dam Keldárstífla at a considerable distance from the cabin earlier on Sunday evening.

The men had reached the cabin before the weather worsened and were unharmed.
