Parliamentarians underwent a volatile debate over Iceland’s involvement in the Iraq war.
The debate started when MPs from both the Alliance and Left Green Parties demanded that Iceland be removed from the so-called Coalition of the Willing.
According to Frettabladid, foreign minister David Oddsson responded by saying the debate was a “stupid discussion” because no other country is discussing whether or not to withdraw from the coalition.
“This shows that David Oddsson is totally ignorant,” Össur Skarphédinsson, the leader of the Alliance Party, responded, “because other nations have withdrawn from Iraq.”
MP Ásta Ragnheidur Jóhannesdóttir, also from the Alliance Party, said that David Oddsson and Halldor Asgrimsson, Iceland’s prime minister, should apologize to the nation for involving Iceland in the war.
