Coach Catches Thief

Around 3 am this morning, coach Júlíus Ármann Júlíusson who lives in Kópavogur, near Reykjavík, woke up to have a glass of water. When he looked out the window, he noticed a man testing the doorknobs of houses on the street and trying to open cars as well, mbl.is reports. When Júlíus heard the man trying to open the door to the apartment on the ground floor of his house, where a woman and her newborn baby are living, and saw him peeking through the window, he ran outside.

The man tried to escape, but Júlíus caught up with him and was able to hold him tight. Both the woman on the ground floor and Júlíus’ wife were awake by then and called the police.

The intruder fought hard to get away, but being both a football coach and athletic instructor, Júlíus kept a tight grip on him until police arrived and arrested him. When the man was searched, he was found to be carrying several items he had stolen from cars on the street.
