Citzenship Not Certain for Bobby Fischer

Parliamentarian Bjarni Benediktsson told the NY Times that granting citizenship to chess legend Bobby Fischer is not a sure thing, and that Parliament would not want to provoke the Japanese government by stepping into the middle of a legal battle.

Fischer is currently detained in Japan as he fights deportation to the US. He’s wanted by the US government for playing a chess match in the former Yugoslavia in 1992.
