CIA Supports Icelandic Overseas Art Projects

The Center for Icelandic Art (CIA) granted the creators of 11 art projects funds worth ISK 3.2 million (USD 41,000, EUR 26,000) in total last week. The artists also received ISK 300,000 (USD 3,900, EUR 2,500) in traveling allowances from airline Iceland Express.

The CIA distributes grants to around 40 native artists every year in relation to their overseas projects. This year the CIA increased their financial support by 41 percent and by the end of 2008 the center will have handed out funds worth ISK 5.1 million (USD 66,000, EUR 42,000) in total.

Among artists who received funds last week were The Love Corporation (Eirún Sigurdardóttir, Jóní Jónsdóttir and Sigrún Hrólfsdóttir), Birta Gudjónsdóttir, Halldór Ásgeirsson and the representatives of the Kling & Bang Gallery in Reykjavík.
