Icelandic National Broadcasting Service, RÚV, reports that church attendance was high all over the country on Christmas Eve. In the Greater Reykjavík Area, many people are reported to have gone to church; there was not an empty seat in the country’s largest congregation, Grafavogur, where about 900 people attended church.
According to RÚV weather conditions had no effect on church attendance, in places from Selfoss to Húsavík mid-night mass was well attended. The minister at Hallgríms Church, Jón Dalbú Hróbjartsson, said that over the past few years, Church attendance during the advent had increased substantially.
