Acclaimed film director Christopher Nolan has returned to Iceland this month. He is shooting scenes for the upcoming movie, The Odyssey, which is set to be an ambitious reimagining of Homer’s classical epic.
Iceland is one of the last shooting locations for the production. Having started shooting in February, the crew has already captured scenes in places including Morocco, Greece, and Scotland.
A favourite location for the direction

Known for his preference for practical effects and on-location shooting, Nolan is no stranger to Iceland’s otherworldly landscapes.
This marks his third major production in the country, following Batman Begins (2005) and Interstellar (2014). According to sources close to the production, filming is expected to take place in Iceland’s more remote regions, likely featuring glaciers and highland terrain that echo the mythic scale of Homer’s narrative.

Though the cast and crew have remained tight-lipped about particular details of the shoot, actors Jovan Adepo and Jesse Garcia have been spotted traveling with the production team, along with several key crew members sharing glimpses of Icelandic scenery via social media. Actor Elliot Page was also spotted in Iceland in recent days.
Aside from that, there has also been talk locally of a huge Viking ship having been constructed near Landeyjarhöfn, likely to be used in the film.
The project, reported to have a budget of $250 million, is one of Nolan’s most ambitious yet. Filming in Iceland is expected to continue through late June before the production moves on to its final stage in the United Kingdom. The Odyssey is slated for release in 2026.
