Christmas Post Delayed Due to Bad Weather

Some Christmas cards and packages will be delivered late in Iceland due to the bad weather across the country in recent days. Some trips by postal workers were cancelled on Monday but extra unscheduled trips will be made tomorrow, December 26, according to Brynjar Smári Rúnarsson, head of marketing at Íslandspóstur hf.

As reported, bad weather across the country has closed roads and interrupted travel plans. “The postal delivery vans which were supposed to leave from the capital on Monday only went to Hella, Hvolsvöllur, Selfoss, Akranes and Borgarnes. The other vehicles didn’t leave town,” he told, adding that all post which was sent prior to the last day for guaranteed arrival before Christmas has arrived on time.

According to Brynjar, Icelanders sent around 2.5 million Christmas cards this year, similar to last year. “This is a wonderful tradition which is still well and truly alive here,” he said.
