Christmas Market at Elliðavatn

By Iceland Review

The Elliðavatn Christmas Market opens tomorrow and will stay open every weekend until Christmas, between the hours of 11 am and 4 pm. There will be a wide selection of crafts and design. Some design items are made of local wood.

The market will formally open at 11:30 am. The Norðingaskóli school choir will sing, and a Christmas tree will be lit. This year’s tree is decorated by designers Elsa Dagný Ásgeirsdóttir and Auöur Inez Sellgren.

Freshly cut, Icelandic Christmas trees will be for sale.

This year, for the first time, the market offers unique trees. Kind-hearted guests will be offered to purchase the trees no one desired. Just like buyers, trees come in all shapes and sizes, and the unique trees may not fall in the category of traditional beauties.

A café will be open, where visitors can enjoy refreshments and listen to readings and musical entertainment. There will be a bonfire and a children’s program at 2 pm Saturday, where some of the Yule Lads will pay a visit.

Elliðavatnsbær, the farmhouse, is a 15-minute drive from downtown Reykjavík, to the east.

You can follow the latest news from the market on its Facebook page.
