Christmas exhibition opens at National Museum

The Christmas program at the National Museum of Iceland begins today at 2 pm. Visitors can learn about traditional Icelandic Christmas and meet the yule lad family.

The program begins with a special yule lad exhibition for children. Objects belonging to the yule lads have been put on display – Bowl Licker’s bowl, Skyr Gully’s skyr, Sausage Snatcher’s sausage – to demonstrate what their names stand for.

Singer Magga Stína and organ player Hördur Bjarnason will perform Christmas songs at the opening and afterwards sing with the children.

The yule lads’ parents, Grýla and Leppalúdi, will stop by with their pet, the infamous Christmas cat, and secret guests will also come to the show.

Different games have been organized for the children, one of which includes finding Christmas cats that have been hidden around the museum.
