A variety of Christmas-themed activities and events for both children and adults will take place in Reykjavík over the coming days.
The Maritime Museum down by the old harbor will hold a treasure hunt for the Icelandic Yule Lads at 11 am today and tomorrow.
The fearsome Christmas Cat can be visited in the Reykjavík Family Park and Zoo in Laugardalur.
Several Christmas markets are held in the capital area. The market in Hafnarfjörður opens at 1 pm daily and a market near Lake Elliðavatn on the outskirts of Reykjavík will be open on Sunday from 11 am to 4 pm. A variety of handmade goods as well as Christmas trees will be on sale.
Árbær Open Air Museum has extended its opening hours during the winter season with guided tours daily at 1 pm.
Over the next few days, the museum’s program will emphasize the history of Christmas preparation and celebration in Iceland.
Visitors can learn about the Yule Lads and sample laufabrauð and Christmas ale.
The museum will be open daily except December 24, 25, 26 and 31.
