Children and teenagers to receive protective goggles for fireworks

The Icelandic Association for the Blind and the Icelandic Association for Search and Rescue are sending all Icelandic children and teenagers from the ages of 10 to 15 a gift certificate for protective goggles for use with fireworks, reports news station NFS.

All-in-all, 28,000 children will receive gift certificates for protective goggles.

The initiative aims to prevent eye injuries caused by fireworks. Last New Year’s, nine eye injuries occurred, all of those injured were boys from the ages of 9 – 18. None were wearing protective glasses.

The Icelandic Postal Service, insurance company Sjóvá and the printing company Oddi are supporting the effort.
