Chief Psychiatrist holds Position at National Hospital

By Iceland Review

An agreement has been reached between the CEO of the National hospital and Chief Psychiatrist Tómas Zoega that he will carry on his position at the hospital. A Supreme Court Ruling had found that his demotion last year by the hospital’s management to the role of a specialist had been illegal. The hospital subsequently did not want to change its position in spite of the ruling and Tómas Zoega resigned his position in protest.

The controversy has created great interest in society and it seemed to sharpen division within the hospital. Since then the government has reiterated its stand that chief doctors at the hospital should not have private practice on the side.

The agreement now stresses that this policy had not changed, but Dr. Zoega had been hired before that policy took force.
