Bjarni Siguróli Jakobsson from Húsavík, chef at the restaurant Slippbarinn in Reykjavík, won the yearly competition Chef of the Year 2012 (Matreiðslumaður ársins 2012) on Sunday.

Hafsteinn Ólafsson from restaurant Grillið at Hótel Saga came second, and third was Garðar Kári Garðarsson from restaurant Fiskfélagið.
Fourteen chefs started out in the competition, five went on to the final, of which Bjarni Siguróli stood up as winner.
In the final, the competitors had five hours to prepare three courses. The starter was blue ling with spinach. The main course was a fillet of foal with beetroot and Portobello mushrooms and the dessert Conference pears with caramelized brown whey cheese.
