Charges Filed Against Alleged Buyers of Prostitution

The cases of eight alleged buyers of prostitution, which is suspected to have been managed by a woman who is also currently on trial for charges of human trafficking, have been sent to court.

Up to eight other individuals are facing the same charges, according to Björgvin Björgvinsson, senior officer at the sexual offence department of the Capital Region Police, Fréttabladid reports.

Purchasing prostitution is a violation of the general penal code and can result in fines or imprisonment of up to one year.

The woman will be held in custody until February 9 and the investigation of her case is in the final stages, according to Fridrik Smári Björgvinsson, senior officer at the Capital Region Police investigative department.
