According to, the program ranges from medieval Spanish Sephardic music to the contemporary work of Daníel Bjarnason, this year’s recipient of the Icelandic Music Award in the categories Composition of the Year, Bow to String, and Composer of the Year.

Other performers include pianist Edda Erlendsdóttir, who received the Icelandic Music Award 2010 for the Classical Record of the Year, and violinists Elfa Rún Kristinsdóttir and Helga Thóra Björgvinsdóttir, viola player Thórunn Ósk Marinósdóttir and cellist Margrét Árnadóttir, who are amongst Iceland’s foremost string players and have all performed as soloists with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra.

The concerts, which have been popular since the festival was first held, give people a chance to enjoy classical music and the beauty of nature in the same place. The festival is organized by the Skaftárhreppur Cultural Committee.
