Chamber Music Festival Held in South Iceland

The 19th annual Chamber Music Festival in Kirkjubaejarklaustur, south Iceland, opens tonight. The festival has been popular from the start and is described as “a good chance to enjoy classical music and the beauty of nature in the same place,” in a press release.

Performers are pianist Ástrídur Alda Sigurdardóttir, guitarists Francisco Javier Jáuregui and Pétur Jónasson, mezzo-soprano Gudrún Jóhanna Ólafsdóttir, who is also the festival’s artistic director, the Male Choir of South Iceland, conducted by Gudjón Halldór Óskarsson, and the chamber orcehstra Caput.

The first concert begins at 9 pm in the Kirkjuhvoll Community Center in Kirkjubaejarklaustur tonight and the following two concerts will be held tomorrow, at 5 pm, and Sunday, at 3 pm.

Tickets cost ISK 2,000 (USD 16, EUR 10) for each concert and ISK 5,000 (USD 40, EUR 25) for all three. For further information, call: (+354) 487-4840 or (+354) 863-6160. The festival is organized by the Skaftárhreppur Cultural Committee.
