Cell call from 10 year old saves parents

A 51 year old woman died and her 34 year old husband is missing after their boat hit the reef Skarfasker, off of the island Videy, at full speed at 2 am on Saturday morning. A 10 year old boy, also onboard, used his cell phone to alert the police of the accident, and tell them that he and his parents were hanging on to the wreck of the boat reports Fréttabladid.

The young boy and his parents were rescued after waiting over an hour in the water. The parents were seriously injured and were operated on yesterday. The 10 year old suffered minor injuries. The 51 year old woman was found shortly after the rescue. It has been reported that her husband dove under the boat in search of her, he has not been seen since.

The cause of the accident is not known but the boat seems to have run into Skarfasker at full speed and sunk immediately afterwards. According to media speculation, the captain of the boat did not follow the marked route around Videy and should not have been so close to the sker. The boat was a recreational boat recently brought to Iceland from Great Britain.

The police, the fire brigade, and the coast guard participated in major search operations yesterday with rescue teams, including five groups of 15 divers each, searching for the 34 year old man. He is still missing.
