Cave Vandalized 40 Years Ago

We reported on Tuesday that Grjótagjá cave in North Iceland had been vandalized. As it turns out, the letters painted on the cave wall have been there for about 40 years, according to the Environment Agency of Iceland, RÚV reports.

A picture of the letters was posted on Facebook this week. The Environment Agency plans to talk to landowners about whether there is reason to remove the letters, which read ‘Þór S.’ They are, however, not in a conspicuous location and, thus, unlikely to lead to additional spray-painting being done.
