The Environment Agency of Iceland has announced that the lower part of the walking path down to Gullfoss waterfall is closed due to risk of accidents at this time of year.

In winter, conditions can be quite dangerous because of snow and ice. Hence the path has been closed and a sign in four languages indicates that the path is closed. The agency strongly requests that tourists heed this warning and thereby reduce the danger of accidents. The waterfall, which is beautiful in winter, can be seen quite well from a distance. Especially if you are alive.
