Cats Save Lives in Fire

Three cats alerted a woman when fire erupted in an apartment at Ásbrú in Reykjanesbær, Southwest Iceland, this morning, RÚV reports. The woman and her daughter were in a closed bedroom and unaware of the fire until the cats began scratching at the bedroom door.

The woman then discovered what was going on and got out without injury, along with her daughter.

The cats, however, did not make it outside on their own and were almost lifeless when fire fighters and police arrived at the scene. With the help of oxygen masks, they successfully resuscitated the cats, which then received care at the Reykjanesbær Animal Hospital. Their condition is improving, according to Suðurnes Police.

According to Víkurfréttir, the fire started in a pot on the stove. Damage to the apartment was extensive.
