Cate Blanchett Fancies Iceland Theater Company

Australian Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett has invited Icelandic theater group Vesturport to stage The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka at the Sydney Theatre Company where she is co-artistic director with her husband Andrew Upton.

Blanchett apparently heard about the play when it was staged by Vesturport in Iceland and therefore decided to invite the group to stage it in Australia, Morgunbladid reports.

Managing director of Vesturport Rakel Gardarsdóttir said the fact that Australian musician Nick Cave wrote the music for the play probably influenced Blanchett’s decision.

Cave will cooperate with Vesturport again next year; Cave is currently working on the dramatization of Faust by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe for the group which will premiere in Iceland next year and later be staged in theaters around the world.
